SMS Terms: La Honda Fire Brigade SMS Duty Alerts

The program
La Honda Fire Brigade SMS Duty Alerts are text messages from the Brigade's monitoring systems at Station 57 to enrolled Brigade officers and duty personnel. An alert is sent when an urgent message reaches the Brigade from the community mesh-radio network at an Advanced Resource Center (ARC) for example a message marked #EMERG or #213 or when the Brigade's hazard monitor flags an event that may need the Brigade's attention.
Alerts are supplemental. They are not official emergency alerts (not Wireless Emergency Alerts) and do not replace 911 or dispatch.
Who receives alerts
Only Brigade members who enroll in writing on the SMS Duty Alerts enrollment form (below). The Brigade does not text the public and does not send marketing messages.
Message frequency and cost
Message frequency varies with incidents, typically 0 to 10 messages a month and more during an emergency. Message and data rates may apply.
To stop: text STOP to the number that sends the alerts. You will receive one confirmation message and no further messages.

Carriers are not liable for any delayed or undelivered messages. Text messages can be delayed or lost, so do not rely on SMS Duty Alerts as your only source of incident information.
How to enroll
Brigade members enroll in writing on the paper SMS Duty Alerts enrollment form, available from the Fire Chief. The form reads:

The consent box is unchecked until the member checks it. Signed forms are kept by the Brigade. After enrolling, the member receives this confirmation text: "La Honda Fire Brigade: you're enrolled in SMS Duty Alerts. Frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel."
