Traffic Control - Job Description

Location: Various locations within and outside La Honda Region

Reports to: La Honda N.E.S.T. Command/Communications Director or La Honda Incident Commander

Description: Assist in regulating and controlling motor vehicle and other traffic to expedite its movement within and outside the La Honda Region as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Direct traffic off of damaged streets and areas to alternate routes.

2) Meter traffic into or out of specified areas to avoid delay of emergency operations.

Skill/Work Requirements:

1) Experience in traffic control.

2) Knowledge of the streets within the La Honda Region

3) Good interactive people skills.

4) Ability to work under pressure.

5) Ability to work out of doors for extended periods of time.

 

Pet/Animal Care - Job Description

September, 1995

Location: Various locations within and outside La Honda Region

Reports to: La Honda N.E.S.T. Command/Communications Director or La Honda Incident Commander

Description: Assist in locating and caring for animals and pets throughout the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Locate and contain escaped pets and animals.

2) Locate care facilities for escaped or homeless pets and animals.

3) Arrange transportation for pets and animals to care facility.

4) Work with various local and county organizations and authorities to establish and maintain pet and animal control.

Skill/Work Requirements:

1) Experience in animal care.

2) Knowledge of the streets within the La Honda Region

3) Good interactive people skills.

4) Ability to work under pressure.

5) Ability to work out of doors for extended periods of time.

 

Missing Persons Support - Job Description

September, 1995

Location: La Honda Fire House

Reports to: La Honda N.E.S.T. Command/Communications Director

Description: Assist emergency or civilian personnel in locating missing residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Take reports of missing personnel in format utilized by American Red Cross (ARC) for Disaster Welfare Inquiry.

2) Check with La Honda Shelter and La Honda Incident Commander to inquire if missing people are on lists of sheltered, injured or deceased victims.

3) Check with ARC, Sheriff's Department and other authorities who maintain lists of sheltered, injured and deceased victims.

4) Check with Volunteer Manager to inquire if missing people are currently on volunteer assignment out of the La Honda Region.

5) Report missing personnel to La Honda Incident Commander or Sheriff's Department as appropriate.

6) Maintain list of missing personnel and report to ARC when possible for official DWI status.

7) Maintain list of located personnel and report to La Honda Incident Commander, Sheriff's Department and ARC as appropriate.

Skill/Work Requirements:

1) Experience in ARC Disaster Welfare Inquiry.

2) Good interactive people skills.

3) Ability to work under pressure.

4) Experience in psychological counseling.

5) Good organizational skills.

6) Computer skills.

 

Medical Support - Job Description

September, 1995

Location: La Honda Fire House

Reports to: La Honda Incident Commander

Description: Treat injuries, prevent disease and maintain sanitation standards as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Staff casualty stations and establish and operate emergency medical field units treating patients as required.

2) Assist in preventing the spread of disease.

3) Advise in restoration of environmental sanitation.

4) Treat patients as required at La Honda Shelter daily sick call hours.

Skill/Work Requirements:

1) Current California state medical license.

 

Evacuation Support - Job Description

September, 1995

Location: Various locations within and outside La Honda Region

Reports to: La Honda N.E.S.T. Command/Communications Director or La Honda Incident Commander or Sheriff's Department personnel

Description: Assist the Sheriff's Department in arranging and executing evacuation of people from any part of the La Honda Region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Direct traffic off of damaged streets and areas to alternate routes.

2) Meter traffic into or out of specified areas to avoid delay of emergency operations.

3) Advise on alternate evacuation routes including hiking and horse trails, as appropriate.

4) Assist on notifying civilian population of evacuation.

5) Assist in routing evacuated civilians to appropriate shelters or other gathering locations.

6) Assist in evacuating pets, livestock and other animals.

Skill/Work Requirements:

1) Experience in traffic control.

2) Knowledge of the streets within the La Honda Region

3) Knowledge of the trails within the La Honda Region and their condition relative to traffic of various types.

4) Good interactive people skills.

5) Ability to work under pressure.

6) Ability to work out of doors for extended periods of time.

7) Knowledge of possible shelter locations for various pets and livestock.

 

Neighborhood Representative - Job Description

September, 1995

Location: Various locations within and outside La Honda Region

Reports to: La Honda N.E.S.T. Command/Communications Director

Description: Assist emergency units within assigned area to determine damage and locate victims during an emergency and to disseminate information and generally assist officials and individuals during the rebuilding effort.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Survey assigned area reporting unsafe conditions and victims requiring emergency response immediately during an emergency.

2) Re-survey assigned area reporting damage after an emergency.

3) Other duties as outlined in the La Honda Region N.E.S.T. Neighborhood Representative's (formerly, "Captain's") Handbook.

Skill/Work Requirements:

1) Experience in traffic control.

2) Knowledge of the streets within the La Honda Region

3) Good interactive people skills.

4) Ability to work under pressure.

5) Ability to work out of doors for extended periods of time.

6) Current certification in First Aid and CPR or above.

7) Training in Light Search and Rescue.

8) Experience with radio communication.

 

Counselor - Job Description

September, 1995

Location: La Honda Fire House or La Honda Shelter

Reports to: La Honda Incident Commander

Description: Treat psychological injuries and prevent further damage to disaster victims as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Staff casualty stations and establish and operate emergency psychological counseling units, treating patients as required.

2) Assist in family loss notifications if required.

3) Assist in post-disaster debriefings.

4) Treat patients as required at La Honda Shelter.

Skill/Work Requirements:

1) Current California state license if applicable.
