NEST disaster response begins with a telephone or radio call from the La Honda Fire Chief or other Incident Commander. Instructions are given including what needs to be done and approximately how many people will be needed. From there the NEST Command further calls NEST responders to meet the disaster need.
NEST has responded several times:
| DATE | INCIDENT | DURATION |
| October, 1994 | Water Service Emergency | 1 day |
| January, 1995 | Flash Flood | 2 days |
| December, 1995 | Sheriff's Search and Rescue | 1 day |
| February, 1998 | Major Winter Storm | 7 days |
Most disasters involve more than just a single
community. Many other area communities also have disaster teams similar to
NEST. Thus, in 1994, La Honda NEST helped to establish CREST (Council of
Regional Emergency Service Teams). CREST representatives meet periodically to
review each team's activities and to share any resources and information
obtained. During a disaster, CREST also serves as a mutual aid organization to
support member communities that are most affected.
