CREST - The Council of Regional
Emergency Teams
CREST was established to better enable the rural
communities in San Mateo or Northern Santa Clara Counties to prepare and
respond to disasters. CREST's goal is "To act as a forum for sharing
information and resources related to rural neighborhood emergency preparedness
and response."
CREST members meet regularly to:
- discuss disaster preparation in rural
areas
- share ideas concerning public awareness
- share ideas on how to encourage public disaster
preparation
- share training opportunities
- develop mutual aid response in the event of a
disaster
- develop procedures, policies and relationships to
work with government and civilian disaster response organizations
Over the years, CREST has:
- maintained information on reosurces available within
and outside of CREST member communities
- compiled a library of printed material on disaster
preparation and response
- perpared a communications protocol and procedural
manual for emergency communications throughtout the CREST coverage
area
- conducted training for CREST neighborhood
organizations in wildland fire behavior, radio network control and general
radio etiquette, light search and rescue
- conducted winter storm drills
- participated in county-wide drills at Emergency
Operations Centers
- surveyed and reported local "critical facilities" for
the County Office of Emergency Services
