Cleaning out your basement, storage unit or boat? Looking to properly get rid of that old paint, contaminated motor oil, antifreeze, unused chemicals and pesticides? You can at the household hazardous waste event coming up in La Honda!

San Mateo County residents are invited to dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) for free at a special drop-off collection event in La Honda on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 8:30-12:15pm.

To participate, you must schedule an appointment at San Mateo County’s HHW Program: www.smchealth.org/hhw or by calling (650) 363-4718, select option 3. The event location will be disclosed once your appointment has been confirmed. No radioactive, explosive, medical or commercial waste is allowed. Limit 10 gallons per appointment.

Residents unable to attend this event can still dispose of HHW for free at San Mateo County’s permanent HHW facility Thursdays-Saturdays (except holidays). You must make an appointment at www.smchealth.org/hhw or by calling (650) 363-4718, select option 3.

Accepted items include: acids/bases, aerosol cans, automotive supplies (car batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid), cleaning products, fertilizers, pesticides, flammable liquids, fluorescent lights (compact and tubes), paint, inks, and photo chemicals. All waste collected is reused, recycled, or stabilized for proper disposal to achieve zero waste being landfilled.
